This popular winter event features horse-drawn sleigh rides, sledding with jack jumpers, and interactive programs. Theodore Roosevelt was a formidable achiever. His titles include soldier, author, naturalist, historian, statesman, Nobel Prize-winner and twenty-sixth President of the United States (the nation’s first cowboy President). This one-person performance by Ted Zalewski emphasizes the forces that shaped Teddy’s personality and leadership style. Most of the show uses Teddy Roosevelt’s own words. Teams of creative, eco-conscious youth, adults and families are challenged to submit illustrations that raise awareness of the present or historical beauty, ecological, economic, and/or social importance of fresh water in Vermont or New Hampshire - from drinking water to wildlife, and everything in between. The top teams from throughout the region will be invited to VINS Nature Center in Quechee, VT to celebrate Vermont Clean Water Day on May 15, 2010. At this Art on a Rain Barrel Festival, each team will receive a free rain barrel on which to paint their designs- courtesy of Upcycle Products (www.upcycle-products.com). Top designs will receive special prizes and will be put on display at the VINS Nature Center for tens of thousands to see! Both the contest and festival are free and open to everyone. Professional artists are invited to paint and donate their rain barrel artwork as a fundraiser for VINS.Entries must be 11” x 17” and postmarked by March 31, 2010.
